SERVICES
The hospital has a 150 in-patient beds facility with average occupancy of 80% in-patient per day and in 2007 admitted 3645 in-patients during the year. Also l9,658 patients were seen and served in the outpatient department. 1821 surgical operations were performed. There were 846 deliveries in 2007, a 25% increase.Evangelical Hospital, Khariar is basically a general secondary level health care curative hospital specializing in General Surgery, OB, Orthopedics, Urology, Plastic Surgery and General Medicine. We also treat psychiatric and pediatric patients and all those who come to us for treatment. No patient is refused treatment for lack of money.

Diocese of Sambalpur, Church of North India deputes chaplains to Evangelical Hospital, Khariar whenever possible.
COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES
All the patients who come to the hospital are exposed to the various health care needs of the individual. While they are waiting in the out-patient department or they are in the ward. The Staff specifically talk to the relatives and the patients regarding family spacing, maternal and child health care and immunization and health education. It is practically impossible to go into the interior villages where one has to walk at times maybe 10-12 km and very few are willing to do this work no matter what the motivation is.
HOSPITAL FARM
The hospital has a 12 acre farm with a fish pond. The main produce is fresh vegetables and pulses (dal) of different types, which are sold to the patients and the staff at a subsidized rate. Carp fish are raised in the fish pond and also sold to the patients at a very subsidized rate mainly as a source of protein supplement. But with drought situation now occurring with great regularity the farm work is not very successful.
EYE SERVICES
The eye department needs an Ophthalmologist urgently as we have been without anyone since September 2007.
EDUCATION FACILITIES FOR STAFF OF HOSPITAL
1. English Medium School - The hospital has started an English Medium School to meet the educational needs of the children of the staff. Very few parents are willing to send their children to boarding school at a young age of six years. This step was taken to help young married doctors and other staff with small children to stay and give a longer commitment to this institution. We plan to add one class every year, God willing and finance permitting.
2. Oriya Medium School - up to Class VII is now operated by the hospital for the children of staff and also for the children living in the surrounding village .
TEACHING PROGRAMS
PHYSICIAN EDUCATION
The Christian Medical Association of India (CMAI) offers a post-graduate program in the discipline of Family Medicine. The Evangelical Hospital is one of the few mission hospitals in India to be recognized as a training center by the Christian Medical Association of India for its students. The hospital prepares the candidates for examinations leading to the membership of the Christian Academy of Medical Sciences.
Two classes are held per week in various disciplines of medicine. Once a week Journal club is held and bedside clinical teaching is done almost every day.
The Evangelical Hospital, Khariar has also been recognized by the Medical Council of India for House Job in the discipline of Medicine, General Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology.
NURSING EDUCATION
(a) The hospital was inspected and recognized as a training center for the training of nurses in the discipline of Operation Theatre Technique.
(b) The hospital now jointly runs a Nursing School with Tilda Hospital in the form that facilities of the hospital are used as training ground for the students of Tilda.
